Every year The People’s Choice Awards (aka E! People’s Choice Awards) honors people in entertainment- from television and movies, to music and pop culture. The production has various categories that the general public and fans vote for online, and some of which include: Favorite All-Around Movie, Favorite Movie Actor, Favorite Leading Lady, Favorite On-Screen Match-Up, Favorite Tour, Favorite Hair, and many more. And this year, we got really excited about who fans voted for as their Fashion Icon.
Like every awards show, actors, singer/songwriters, musicians, celebrities, and other social influencers and personalities show up and show off for the event. Fans and viewers tune in to see which of their favorite celebs wear and rock on the red carpet, and 2019’s Fashion Icon really lived up to her nomination.
E! People’s Choice Awards dubbed Gwen Stefani the award for their Fashion Icon. In the past, only one other person has been awarded with the title, Victoria Beckham, but we aren’t surprised by Stefani being the second honored. Her evolution from No Doubt in the 90’s, to what she is now, is really something, and not only to look up to, but share and be inspired by. But who was her inspiration?
Many of us have watched Stefani who gained success in her career like this:
And since then, we’ve seen the star evolve over time from a punk rocker, to solo music mogul, and now a fashion icon (even though we think she’s been one all along).
While Stefani has always sang and been involved in music, she’s also been drawn to fashion. And even though she used to think it wasn’t for her, and would go to thrift stores to make her own clothes, she has transformed herself into someone who now motivates others with fashion in the same way her mother and grandmother did for her.
When giving her speech at the award show, Stefani said “I always loved fashion, it was one of those instinctual things," and told the audience how her mother and grandmother would sew their own clothing.
“My mom would come home from school, and my grandma would have made her prom dress, so I feel like my favorite thing in my life is to go to the fabric store with my mom and pick out different looks … it was always there, so the fact that this is happening now is hard to imagine, because it’s just what I do.”
Regardless of Stefani being brought up thinking certain types of fashion were only for those who had money, she expressed she now loves it and “one of the biggest blessings of the whole thing is just all the amazing, talented designers and people that have taught me all the things that I know.” So, we understand how it must have been “hard to digest,” yet admire how Stefani has come full circle from something that began in her childhood and fostered it into a career as an adult.
I mean, who wouldn't want to be this fabulous?
